Features Two Singer/Songwriters for
One Night Only:
Matt Kanelos with Sam Kenny
Oak Park, IL – For one night only, on March 15, Village Players Theatre will showcase two emerging singer/songwriters: New York performer Matt Kanelos with opening act Sam Kenny. This event is a must-see for anyone interested in talented, up-and-coming artists.
Singer/songwriter and pianist, Matt Kanelos has recently emerged as an exciting new voice in New York City's downtown music scene. With a vocal style calling to mind Neil Young and Will Oldham, a songwriting concept in the realm of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, and a touch at the keyboard reminiscent of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, Kanelos commands the stage with a disarming grace distinctly his own. He has had the distinction of playing with and arranging for the Glenn Miller orchestra, performing at the Signature Room in the John Hancock Building, as well as at a private dinner for Mayor Daley. In 2006, the Songwriters Hall of Fame selected him for their New Writers showcase and CD. Currently, Matt performs regularly at acclaimed New York music venues like the Living Room and the Rockwood Music Hall.

Sam Kenny has been writing and performing songs with the Grand Rapids alternative folk-rock band, Fancy Thermos, for the past five years, but has just released a solo album of folk songs entitled See the Storm Through. His lyrics and melodies are peaceful and thoughtful, and his guitar arrangements unique and lyrical. Sam has done shows at The One Trick Pony, Meijer Gardens, The Intersection, and most other Grand Rapids venues. The Grand Rapids Press wrote that "this West Michigan singer-songwriter exhibits hints of Simon and Garfunkel from that duo's heyday. But his spare, original acoustic music also resonates with a unique poetic pulse."
