Oak Park, IL – For the first two weekends in March, Village Players Theatre’s main stage theatre will be ablaze with musical talent, sure to warm hearts and set toes tapping!
On March 1 and 2, experience the magic and intrigue of Love! Soprano Janene Bergen and Tenor Raymon Cunha will lead you through the twists and turns that mark the road to love in ‘Through the Opera Glass—A Romantic Journey.’ Experience seduction, deception and fatal attraction! A dashing soldier, an ardent aristocrat, a sassy maid and a Hungarian countess are only a few of the characters you’ll meet through the glorious music of Puccini, Bernstein, Mozart, and Rodgers & Hammerstein, among others. Don’t miss out on your favorite romantic arias, songs and duets from opera and musical theater!
Janene Bergen has performed extensively throughout Europe and the US, including local performances with both Village Players Theatre and the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Currently, she teaches voice at the Cappelli Institute of Music. Raymon has performed with Dupage Opera Theatre, The Opera Factory, and Lyric Opera of Chicago. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, he has also performed with Seattle Opera, the Seattle Symphony, and Seattle Pro Musica, as well as an Artist-in- Residence with The Portland Opera.
The following weekend, on March 8 and 9, enjoy a variety of music with many familiar faces. Take the American songbook from Broadway to the Blues, add in a multi-generational cast plus the stories that they associate with the music and you have "Life Stories, A Cabaret." All your favorites from Village Players will be on hand to sing and dance the night away including Betty Scott Smith, Jack Crowe, Laurie Marchese, Kamaran Alexis Madison, Jim Spangler, Eugenia Elliott and more. Director Jack Crowe says "This show will be shaken and not stirred."
