Oak Park, IL - Village Players Theatre announces the next production in their intimate Play Ground Studio Theatre: Tennessee Williams' classic drama 'The Glass Menagerie.'
The intimacy of the Play Ground space will thrust the audience right into the living room of the Wingfield family, including the troubled relationship between an aging mother, Amanda, and her painfully shy daughter Laura, as told by the son and brother, Tom. In this production, the family's dreams and delusions, and even the iconic photo of the abandoning father, will come to life.
"Tennessee Williams was a great playwright because he dove so unsparingly into human desires and frustrations," says director Doug Long. "The Glass Menagerie" is iconic because Williams focuses on the universal themes of clinging to the promise of the past and the idea that someone or something else is preventing you from moving on to a positive future. The themes are timeless, and any audience visiting or re-visiting the Wingfields will probably see part of themselves in this classic dysfunctional family."
'Menagerie' runs from February 8 – March 2, 2008. *There is no show on Saturday, February 23.* Show times are 7:30 PM for all Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 PM for all Sundays. All tickets are $15.
Presented in the Play Ground Theatre of the newly renovated Village Players Theatre located at 1010 W. Madison. Plenty of parking is available on the street.
